When you’re using social media you’re taking part in a conversation. Whoever you are. So when you post on social media as a business, you have to consider what your business sounds like. What words does it use? The ‘voice’ of a business it very similar to personalities; straight-talking, funky, smooth and sophisticated etc.
To understand what’s appropriate for your business consider the style of language that is natural and comfortable for you, your customers and the nature of your business. Don’t ever pretend to be something you’re not or write in a way that’s unnatural for you. It just won’t work. It’s difficult to maintain and it will become cumbersome.
Whatever your approach, having a consistent style is important to establishing an online presence for your small business. It assures customers that it’s you who’s talking and upholds your side of the conversation.
Have you ever had the feeling of not being quite sure who you’re talking to? Don’t ever let your customers feel that way. Be familiar through your consistency and be real.
